LionHeart announces new chair of Board
LionHeart is pleased to officially announce a new chair of the Board of Trustees following the most recent board meeting last week.
Previous vice chair Philippa Sampson-Bancroft FRICS was formally elected by her fellow trustees as new chair, with Philip Nell taking over as vice chair.
The appointment comes as Peter McCrea FRICS steps down after serving two three-year terms as chair, making him the longest serving in recent decades.
Having first joined the board as a trustee in January 2017, he said: “In pure numbers, over that time we have seen year on year increases in the number of individuals and families helped. The shape of support offered has also changed and evolved and of course, we had Covid to deal with. As a board, we considered that if ever there was a time for LionHeart to step up to the plate, it was then. And the staff team rose to the challenge with resilience and enthusiasm, determined to be there when the profession needed us.
“I thank my colleagues around the board table, many of whom have been with me for over five years and who have all been both passionate and determined about the mission of the charity. I know that, led by Philippa, LionHeart will go on from strength to strength.”
Thanking Peter for his time and commitment, Philippa said: “Peter has given so much to the role over the years, overseeing a period of growth and change for LionHeart - not least Covid - always with the people we help at the very heart of decisions.
"I'm honoured to take on the role of chair of the LionHeart board; we have a great team of trustees who are committed to stewarding the charity and ensuring that we continue to support surveyors and their families in times of need. I'm particularly pleased to be taking the helm in this, our 125th anniversary year with all eyes on the development of our new strategy. It is a great time to be part of LionHeart's story."
Our 2024 Impact Report, published last week, shows that we’re helping more people than ever, with a rise in demand for all of our main services. In 2023/24, we handled 10% more requests for help from surveyors all over the world - which means that demand for our services has risen by over 100% in the last five years.
